HGE12 Villa of the Mosaic Columns. 1842 drawing by N. La Volpe of the frieze on one of the mosaic columns.
According to the ICCD database, the drawing depicts a frieze with three "Retiarii" Cupids, each of which, armed with a lance, is intent on striking a deer.
It is the frieze of one of the mosaic columns coming from the Villa of the mosaic columns of Pompeii, now preserved in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples (Inventory numbers. 9995-9996, 10000-10001).

HGE12 Villa of the Mosaic Columns. 1842 drawing by N. La Volpe of the frieze on one of the mosaic columns.
According to the ICCD database, the drawing depicts a column decorated with mosaic motifs with scales in the lower third, a headband with garland of leaves, floral motifs in the middle third, and a frieze with cupids hunting, and floral motifs in the upper third topped with a headband of a garland of leaves. It is one of the mosaic columns coming from the Villa of the mosaic columns of Pompeii, now preserved in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples (Inventory numbers. 9995-9996, 10000-10001).

According to Jashemski, at the top of the shell which decorated the large niche was a Nereid on a sea-bull.

According to Jashemski, in the large niche was a smaller one which may have held a fountain statue.
From the smaller niche, decorated with a garden scene, water flowed down steps into the basin below.
(This is described as being “Mosaic Fountain, House
of the Madusa or Medusa”.)
