VII.9.7/8 Pompeii. Two drawings by Niccolini. [See also the north entrance prothyron at VII.9.19].
According to Niccolini –
“This side (north side) was decorated by other paintings and architectural friezes, which now are entirely lost.
The same applies to the walls that formed the north entrance of the building, decorated by various paintings and interesting decorations, of which now one can discern some meagre remains. However, since they were drawn as soon as they were discovered, and then published, we can offer a sufficient description of them.
In the painting that was located on the left (Helbig 777), we have the celebration of the Festival of Vestals, that was sacred to Vesta, represented by Cupids and Psyches. At the rear you have a mill: from the middle of the catillus a quadrangular rod came out finishing in a point, which was used to regulate the passage of the grain. Towards the front are various groups of Cupids.” (p.12).
“In the painting that was located opposite (Helbig 800), Floralia was being celebrated, represented here by means of Cupids and Psyches.
Sitting on a bench,
and around a table, were two Psyches dressed in long tunics, and two Cupids,
all of whom were intent on collecting the flowers that were on the table to
make garlands.” (p.13).

At the bottom it is titled "Painting
