Two friezes occupy the middle upper zones of the four walls and they continue all around the room, interrupted only by the door openings.
In the large upper frieze are eight episodes from the life of Heracles.
Below these in the narrower 30cm high frieze are scenes from the Iliad.

Della Corte identified the following scenes from the Iliad in the narrow central frieze:
North wall:
A group of heroes with the inscription ….YGES (possibly Phryges) [at extreme west end]
[Following] Patroclus fighting on a wagon and with the arms of Achilles, with the inscriptions XANTUS, BADIUS and PATROCLOS
[Following the previous] Thetis gives the weapons to her son; Automedon readies the chariot: with the inscriptions THETIS, BADIUS, ACHiLL[e]S and AUTO[me]DON
At the east extremity, after a gap whose fragments were perhaps dispersed in preceding explorations, the body of Hector dragged by the chariot. With the inscriptions [hect]OR and AUTOMEDON

Games in his honour
Ransom of body of Hector
South wall: (Left to right)
Apollo firing arrows causing a plague throughout the Greek army [West end]
A horse is being watered, guarded by a hero [opposite end]

Led by Hermes, Priam takes a wagon out of Troy, across the plains, and enters the Greek camp unnoticed.

A kneeling King Priam pleads with Achilles for the body of Hector. A slave carries gifts from the cart.
A group of Achaean warriors are behind Achilles who sits dressed in a mantle with his right hand on his shield.

On the right of the south wall a boy is watering two horses, said to be XANTUS and BALIUS given to Achilles by Peleus.
On the left of the south wall the embassy to Achilles (between two sets of rocks), consisting of the heavily armed Phoenix, Odysseus and Telamonian Ajax goes towards Achilles tent.
On the east wall in his tent sits a nude Achilles in thoughtful pose. Patroclus, fully armed, is next to him.

Above this was the narrow frieze with Apollo firing arrows inflicting the plague on the Achaean camp.
On the frieze was the word LOIMOS (plague or pestilence). Above that was the large frieze of the deification of Heracles.
