VI.16.7 Pompeii. May 2006. South wall of room B, atrium.
VI.16.7 Pompeii. c.1906. Room B, south wall showing painted decoration.
According to NdS, this south wall was the best preserved of the walls in the atrium.
It was divided into five large panels, however the one to the right was only a part-panel due to the doorway.
The larger central panel had a black background, whereas the others were painted red.
Only the lower part of the central painting (see above) was conserved (0.50m high x. 1.25m wide).
On a rock, on the right, sat a male figure, but only his left very dark leg remained.
His foot was fitted with a high boot with laces.
Leaning against the rock was a panpipe.
Nearby to the right, on the green pastureland were two lambs and a goat, forming a group; two goats formed another group on the left.
It was probable that the painting showed Paris grazing the flock on Ida.

VI.16.7 Pompeii. c.1906. Room B, drawing of garden from zoccolo of south wall
According to NdS, the zoccolo was divided into two
horizontal halves using a double reddish and green band, and had in the upper
half a schematic representation of a garden, with a pluteus around it formed by
a trellis-work of cane/reeds and decorated with columns in each corner,
supporting a vase or a bird. The garden had two entrances, each with a
suspended shield in the form of a pelta.
In each of the entrances there was a bird, with a few others resting on the pluteus.
