According to Sogliano –
“In this kitchen, on 14th May 1895, some vases of bronze and terracotta were found, together with other items.
Also found were two marble statues, both of which without doubt belonged to the peristyle: the first (0.84m high) missing its right arm, its left foot and its right hand, showed Theseus, ……..:
the second statuette (0.95m high) was found in pieces, and showed Priapus, completely nude………
Missing his right forearm and toes: his left arm was found detached from his torso.
The head, broken into two pieces, the phallus and the pillar were found on 6th August.
The described statuette of Priapus is now preserved in the cubiculum communicating with the kitchen, and decorated with the usual obscene paintings roughly executed.
See Sogliano, A. La
Casa dei Vettii in Pompei in Mon. Ant. 1898. (p.269).
