VII.16.6 Pompeii. September 2004. Looking north across workshop, at the rear was a doorway into VII.16.9. According to Eschebach, the doorway on the left would have led into a small room under the steps at VII.16.5.
At the rear on the left would have been a stairs to the upper mezzanine, with a latrine beneath. In the workshop were two dolia, three mortars, and two or three mills.

According to Fiorelli –

“Area servita forse altra volta per contenere le macine di un pistrino, che vi si trovava alle spalle.”

See Pappalardo, U., 2001. La Descrizione di Pompei per Giuseppe Fiorelli (1875). Napoli: Massa Editore. (p.161)

(translation: Area used perhaps at another time to contain the mill-stones of a small bakery, that one could see at the rear.”
