VII.3.6 Pompeii. September 2005. According to Boyce, above a rectangular podium stood two columns coated with red stucco.
These supported the roof with pediment. The semi-circular niche in the rear wall had its vaulted ceiling adorned with a stucco shell. The walls of the niche were painted orange and on each side of the niche was a stucco pilaster. A large marble statuette of Venus Anadyomene was found in the aedicula. On either side of the aedicula are two long vertical slits, Fiorelli suggested they may have held candelabra.
