VI.9.3 Pompeii. Painting by Zahn from the House of Centauro, discovered in 1829.
According to Zahn, this decoration on a red background is from a room at the rear, on the left of the tablinum, most likely room 7.
The decoration would have been seen in a narrow panel separating two other panels.
It is shown in three pieces; on the right is the lower part, on the left the upper part, with the middle part joining both.
See Zahn, W., 1842-44. Die schönsten Ornamente und merkwürdigsten Gemälde aus Pompeji, Herkulanum und Stabiae: II. Berlin: Reimer, taf. 59.
According to PPM, the north wall, now with almost illegible decoration but dating to the 4th Style (according to Overbeck, P4, p.331) consisted of a yellow zoccolo, a panelled middle area, concluded by a stucco cornice and an upper zone.
See Carratelli, G. P., 1990-2003. Pompei: Pitture e Mosaici. IV. Roma: Istituto della enciclopedia italiana, (p. 837, no. 36.)

VI.9.3 Pompeii. September 2004. Looking east from tablinum 6 towards pseudo-peristyle 9. According to Jashemski, the garden was excavated in 1829. The narrow portico enclosed the garden. This portico was supported by eight columns and a double pillar reinforcing the column in the north-east corner (on the left of centre above). In the north, east and south, the columns were joined by a low wall. In the centre of the garden was a small basin enclosed by a low wall. See Jashemski, W. F., 1993.
