VI.9.2 Pompeii.   Found 12th October 1829.  Room 2, atrium.  Wall painting of the abandoned Dido seated on a throne surrounded by maids.  Africa is recognisable by the elephant trunk and tusks.  The ships of Aeneas are sailing away in the distance.  Now in Naples Archaeological Museum.  Inventory number 8898.  See Helbig, W., 1868. Wandgemälde der vom Vesuv verschütteten Städte Campaniens.
