According to Breton, several of the rooms here were richly decorated.

This might be from rooms 13, 14 or 15 on west side of peristyle.

Room 15 may be doubtful, as when excavated it had two identifiable paintings, according to Helbig, they were of Danae, and of a Nymph.

This painting of two figures, perhaps Apollo, perhaps Pindar, would have had to be on the third wall and yet not mentioned.

According to PAH, 1,3, dated 27TH OCTOBER 1810 (p.43) -

“This (room) was almost all excavated, I say almost, because it had not been possible to lift the earth in this one, for fear that it would not ruin one side of the same room, it remains decorated with grotesque architecture, and compartments on a red field, elegantly painted, and in the middle of it there are good decorative paintings, with two figures. The upper part of the façade has a white field, on which are paintings of the usual grotesque decorations made with taste. The zoccolo had a black field and painted above with marine animals, plants, etc.  You see the curve of the vault with a stucco frame that limited it, and this was partly dyed in various colors. The floor was “mattone pesto”. Found in this room were the following, despite the fact that it had already been searched by the ancients, by the walls found perforated, as by the lapilli found all around in confusion .......................”
