V.2.17 Pompeii. December 2007. Looking north across shop to doorway to middle room.
According to NdS, when excavated the shop was found with a sales counter, covered with plaster imitating coloured marble and decorated with a painting (0.79 x 0.51).
The painting showed Teti (Thetis? or Tethys?) dressed in a pink robe sitting on a bearded Triton, and armed with helmet, shield and breast-plate. While she held the shield on the back of the monster with the left hand, she grasped the lance in her right-hand, that the Triton carried on his shoulders. The Triton was swimming towards the left and turning his gaze to the goddess. See Notizie degli Scavi, October 1877, (p.60)
