II.4.8 Pompeii. Found in 1934. Small room or stall to south of entrance. Bronze lantern. SAP inventory number 5798. The inventory card says it was found in the first room west side, vicolo crossing Via Abbondanza. “Primo vano lato O. vicolo trasversale V. Abbondanza”. According to Parslow, “In a small room near this entrance [II.4.8] the excavators came across two large bronze lanterns which originally may have been suspended by their chains from the ceiling joists, since they were found near the level of the roof”. He also identifies these with SAP inventory numbers 5798 and 5816. See Parslow, C., 1988. Rivista di studi pompeiani II. Roma: L’Erma di Bretschneider. (pp. 37).
