II.2.2 Pompeii. December 2005. Room 1, atrium. Looking south across atrium, impluvium and fountain. According to Jashemski, Spinazzola said the space between the walls had been lined in wood and would have formed a permanent planting box. The impluvium had been bordered by a low, double masonry wall, covered with marble on the outside. See Jashemski, W. F., 1993. The Gardens of Pompeii, Volume II: Appendices. New York: Caratzas.
