II.1.9 Pompeii. March 2009. Looking south from kitchen/latrine to room 7, small room on south side of garden, and rear door at II.1.8

According to Jashemski, the small room on the left side of the doorway was excavated in 1985. (Here it is on the right).

It was found to have a treading floor, where grapes were pressed by foot. The juice flowed into a small dolium.

The presence of the treading floor suggested that the garden had been planted in vines to provide grapes for wine that was made on the site.
