IX.2.23 Pompeii. March 2009. South wall with door to rear room. The rear room was painted with black on the lower level, yellow in the middle, the frieze and border were red. This room was richly decorated with paintings when first excavated. Paintings, of the flying Victory carrying the trophy in her arms, Spring with a lamb on her shoulders and a basket in her right hand, and Summer with a basket of flowers in her hand, lifting her veil, were found.
Also a painting of Danae holding the young Perseus in her arms, sitting by the sea, having a money-chest and a fisherman with rod in front of her. Sogliano said the top of the paintings were not conserved, and the entire paintings had nearly vanished.
