The tribunal was a box reserved for such as the magistrate who gave the play, honoured guests, or priestesses.

VIII.7.20 Pompeii. June 2010. The lower area is the remains of the summa cavea supported by a vaulted corridor.
The tall wall at the rear had projecting basalt blocks.
These were to support strong wooden masts that held the awning or velum that protected the spectators from the sun.

VIII.7.20 Pompeii. May 2006. The four ledges at the front were known as the ima cavea.
Members of the city council, the decurions, had the right to sit here on a seat of double width.
VIII.7.20 Pompeii. May 2006. The middle rows were known as the media cavea.
This contained 20 rows of marble seats arranged like steps. Only a small portion is preserved.
