The large oblong niche in the west wall was apparently for a statue. Below a jet of water spurted out just above the marble dado.

“A youth riding a panther backwards, with the upper part of his body turned towards the viewer. He holds the panther’s neck with his right hand, and a thyrsus with his left hand. The panther is moving forwards, with its left foreleg raised.”
